My
Political Philosophy
Libertarians believe that you have the right to live your life as you
see fit -- as long as you take responsibility for your actions and don't
violate the rights of other people.
Democrats and Republicans -- liberals,
conservatives and moderates -- all have some plan to run your life.
They believe "there ought to be a law." Libertarians believe
"there ought to be a choice." Leave people alone and they
will grow and prosper.
Government officials pass law after law,
tax after tax, and regulation after regulation. Politicians and bureaucrats
want power over our lives. They don't care whether their plans work
or not -- as long as they have "good intentions."
There are too many laws. I am not running
for Congress to be a "lawmaker." I am running to repeal as
many laws as I can. There are basic laws that we all know to follow.
Crimes such as murder, rape, robbery and fraud should be illegal.
Instead there is volume after volume
of laws, turning non-violent personal behavior into crimes, or creating
countless bureaucratic administrative offenses that most of us violate
every day without even knowing it! 60,000 armed federal agents are prepared
to enforce all of these laws and regulations. This has grown worse since
the 9/11/01 terrorist attacks. Of course we need protection from terrorism,
but government officials have used this excuse to greatly expand the
role of government and to take away more of our precious liberties.
The other candidates for Congress in all other parties want to run your
life; they want more and bigger government. I am the candidate who wants
less.
No Libertarian has ever raised anyone's
taxes (in fact, in 1982 Libertarian legislators in Alaska succeeded
in repealing the state income tax). Libertarians coined the term "privatization,"
which means that government services can be more efficiently and economically
provided by free market competition. Libertarians have consistently
led the fight against bond measures that would put our children and
grandchildren in debt. Libertarians have fought laws that violate your
personal privacy and liberty.
The Libertarian Party is the party of
the 21st Century. Big government has failed. Libertarians defend the
rights of the individual against the power of the state. If you are
a freedom-loving individual, if you're sick and tired of the loss of
your liberty on a daily basis, join me and my fellow Libertarians in
this vitally important quest. |

Dreier Must Go!

Dreier, our bachelor Congressman, has become married to big government.
27 years in Washington has turned Dreier into a member of the political
establishment. Once an advocate of less government, Dreier
is now an apologist for the most spectacular growth of government in two generations!
Until December 2006 Dreier was chairman of the House Rules Committee. Every bill had to clear his committee before it went to the floor of Congress to be voted upon. For this reason, Dreier can be held responsible for the USA Patriot
Act, the Real ID Act, the Medicare prescription drug benefit, and dozens
of other ill-advised Bush Administration bills.
Dreier tells us
in his "handwritten" letters that he is working to cut
government spending. He hasn't done a very good job. Spending
is up every year -- and at a much higher rate than when
Bill Clinton was president. Between 2001 and 2006, George W. Bush and the Republican Congress increased government spending by a higher percentage
than any administration since Lyndon B. Johnson's in the 1960's.
Dreier's voting record score with the National Taxpayers
Union has fallen to 57% (a B- grade). Three California congressmen (from Orange County) rate an "A," 2 a "B+," and 4 a "B," but not Dreier.
Dreier
has proposed a national ID card that says on it, "This is
not a national ID card." He wants employers to become
unpaid immigration agents, just like they are unpaid tax collectors
for the government. He wants to put every American in a data base
and make getting a job dependent on approval from a Washington
bureaucrat. This bill alone requires Dreier's defeat.
Finally,
Dreier has signed on to the Gold Line boondoggle, collecting federal
funds to extend the light rail from Pasadena to Montclair, mostly
within
his district. This train will never have the necessary ridership,
and every ride will be subsidized by taxpayers -- forever and
ever. It is very important to cut off all federal funds for the
Gold Line and to stop the extension before ground is broken.
David Dreier should have been term limited out of office 17 years ago. The
voters should send him packing in 2008 and elect a new representative who
will actually work to limit government power.
